2020 Trips
Pictures and Comments
Due to the Coronavirus, we have not been able to have any trips at all this year which saddens all of us.
Since Delaware recently lifted some restrictions, we were able to have a "Special Trip" for a soldier and his family who were in need for a respite from the hospital to relax and reconnect with each other. This was a last minute trip and we were so glad that we could accommodate and make it happen.
We want to thank several people from our community who made all of this happen in addition to our program volunteers: Nancy Marvel at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, Mike Dangerfield from Zogg's and Funland.
Please support our program so that we can continue to provide these weekends for our active duty military.

"Jim, Karen, Scott and Beth, we cannot thank you enough for this weekend at Rehoboth Beach. This was an incredible opportunity that we would never be able figure out or afford otherwise. This provided a much needed break from Fort Belvoir as well as the boys first visit to the beach. They loved the gifts, had a wonderful time in the hotel pool (honestly, their favorite part), and they loved all the rides at Funland. They will remember this weekend for a very long time. Jill enjoys trips like this and this was the first time we have done anything like a vacation in years. Very grateful that this was possible during the Covid situation. It is amazing how much the Warrior Weekend Program provides. I hope you can continue to make this program available to service members who need a break. Thank you again." |

"Thank you so much for this trip! You all went above & beyond to make sure we were able to have an enjoyable, free of out of pocket experience! The gift bags for the boys were so thoughtful! You could tell the toys and other goodies were picked out with care, perfect choices for 3 & 5 year old boys and the juice came in handy because I forgot to pack any." |

"The hosts were warm & welcoming, very friendly. The hotel was very nice, with good breakfast each morning. We enjoyed the boat ride and seeing the dolphins was awesome! The museum was interesting as well. Of all the restaurants, the best by far was the Ropewalk, then The Village and the very worst in our opinion was Aj's on the Creek. The sub shop was delicious! We really did enjoy our weekend. It was nice to get away from D.C.. Our boys enjoyed the ocean, collecting shells and driving us crazy in the process. Plus, we made friends in the experience which was an added bonus. Thank you so much for all that you do!" Name: SFC Kurt Horstman "Thank you Buddy and Karen! Despite the weather and Covid related complications, you still managed to arrange and host a very fun, memorable and much needed family getaway for us. That couldn't have been easy under the circumstances. We especially appreciated the level of communication and organization you provided throughout the weekend. We have zero complaints and highly recommend that fellow soldiers and their families participate in the Warrior Weekend getaways." Name: SFC Juan Ospina "First off, thank you for a great weekend. Your organization goes all out for our warriors. I have been on a few trips from other organizations but yours really takes it to another level. Your attention to detail from location to taking care of the hotel maid is impressive. I want to thank everyone that contributes their time and money to take care of us and all our warriors." |

"This has been an amazing weekend and brought joy to other trying times. Buddy and Karen have been awesome and we all hope to see them again. I've never had an opportunity like this before. This trip was most likely not like the others but my only suggestion is to notify the units further in advance so they can identify to ones in greatest need (although we all needed this). I'd prefer a private go over myself being an NCO. What a special weekend for myself & family Warrior Weekend has provided for us. We are truly thankful. God bless you!!" Name: SFC John Badger "We had a blast! Aside from the cold weather which I know it was postponed because of the Covid. The extraordinary length taken by your staff to provide an escape for soldiers is the best I have seen in over 27 years in the army. Mr. Buddy and Miss Karen were awesome! Thank you for your staff and donors for providing such a memorable weekend. The timing of this trip could not have been better. They even went out of their way to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you!!" |

"We had a really good time! Our goal was to relax and we definitely did that. Food was wonderful, we really enjoyed the Fort Miles tour, swimming in the ocean and the hotel was magnificent! And the Warrior Weekend volunteer staff very helpful and nice! Only thing as a suggestion from us would be with the meals: breakfast at the hotel, no group lunch, and then have a group dinner. But again, we really enjoyed this weekend." Name: SFC Marcos Rios "Thank you so much for the amazing weekend. One suggestion would be to have more time between meals. Maybe like a 12:30 lunch and a 6:30 dinner in order to maximize the time in between and not rush in between meals. With COVID, maybe seating us outside or in separate tables per family. Other than that great job! Everything was well organized and perfect." |

"Friday - The staff was friendly and my family enjoyed themselves completely walking the beach. Dinner was fantastic, the whole family enjoyed it. Fishing afterwards was relaxing as well with one catch. Saturday - All the meals were very delicious. The 10 layer cakes were great & surprising. We spent much time on the boardwalk & fishing as well. Wouldn't change anything at all. The tour of Fort Miles was very interesting and was a change of pace. Sunday - Early morning fishing and relaxation. Thank you for a fantastic weekend. My family enjoyed themselves very much and it brought a lot of smiles on our faces this past weekend. There wasn't one thing that we could complain about as everything was great. The staff was really nice and helpful. My family really enjoyed the restaurants and the different types of food they had the hotel was very extravagant, the tour through Fort Miles bunker was very interesting and fascinating, and we just had a great time every minute that we were there due to you and your organization. Again, I want to say thank you very much." |

"These past three days have been fantastic. My family & I were able to get some good rest & relaxation time on Friday and Saturday morning. Saturday was great as the American Legion with the Elvis show was spectacular. Dinner was delicious and some good fishing with my kids provided us with a cooler full of shark. Sunday is some shopping with some good beach side views. The staff were phenomenal and was a pleasure to meet. I couldn't ask for a better trip with my family. Thank you for everything." Name: SFC Juan Ospina "I would like to start by thanking everyone in the WW for going above and beyond to support our troops volunteering their time to ensure our troops can have a weekend to relax and take their mind away from whatever problem they may be going through in their life. The weekend was excellent. The Elvis show was by far one of the best I have seen. I would go as far to say better than the ones in Vegas. The food, the hotel all 5 stars in my book." |

"Warrior Weekend has done more than just provide a few nights in a hotel and some meals. They have provided the time and an opportunity to relax and bond with my family without the stress of being able to afford it. Also, for this trip in particular, I got to meet supporters of the Warrior Weekend Program AND many of them are veterans that served before me. What a great opportunity to talk/meet with the ones who paroled the America I grew up in. P.S. Love the WW Staff!" Name: SSG John Green "The Green Family had a great time this weekend. We will be looking for future events! I would recommend in the upcoming trips we have 4 days. That gives the family more time for touring adventures! Again, thank you for the great time!" Name: SGT Joshua Wangerin "Thank you for this weekend. I loved it. The Elvis show was amazing, accommodations were awesome. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend." |
