Korean War veterans donate to Warrior Weekend program
August 22, 2021

Warrior Weekend Program President Jim Lafferty, right accepts a donation check from Korean War Veterans of America Chapter 1 President Jack McGinley. SUBMITTED PHOTO The Korean War Veterans of America Chapter 1, Sussex County donated $10,000 to the local Warrior Weekend program. Members were very pleased to be able to help such a worthy organization in this operating area.
The program schedules weekend trips for American heroes from Fort Belvoir Hospital in Virginia, with their families, to various resort localities like Rehoboth Beach; Hersey Park, Pa.; and historic Philadelphia. A typical weekend group consists of 15 or more soldiers and family members traveling at absolutely no cost to them.
Weekends are from Thursday through Sunday, and usually there are seven weekend trips each year. The overall purpose of the program is get these heroes out of the hospital and military environment to relax and reconnect with their families. It has been a huge success over the years.
For more information about helping the Warrior Weekend program, contact Jim Lafferty at 302-745-7779 or P.O. Box 63, Harbeson, DE 19951. For KWVA information, contact Jack McGinley at 302-945-0698.

In Memory of Captain Carlton Leonard
 September 30, 1951 - March 15, 2021

"Captain Carlton was a great friend and supporter of Warrior Weekend Program. I had the pleasure of his company on several cruise tours over the years with our troops and their families from Ft. Belvoir. We found Captain Carlton to be a most gracious host with a wealth of knowledge about everything on and around Chincoteague Island. He is missed. Our prayers are with his family and many friends. May he rest in peace."
